Let’s face it, for most high school students their prom is their own personal walk down the red carpet or fashion runway. Some girls will search every store in town, check with friends, search online for ideas and try on at least 100 prom gowns before making their final decision.

Be sure to keep your own personal style in mind when shopping for your prom dress and don’t be swayed by anyone unless you actually think they are right. Of utmost importance is to make sure it fits properly. You may fall in love with a dress that is one size too small, yet buying a dress that doesn’t fit is a bad decision, especially with regard to comfort. Black seems to be the color of choice for prom dresses but you are by no means limited to that one color. You are free to choose whatever color suits you best. There are many different designs and styles available, such as the long formal prom gowns or short prom dresses. You can pick and choose separates.

There are other ways that you can take a basic prom gown and turn it into something that is truly you. You can add stunning details that will make your dress stand out, such as adding a sash with a splash of print or an extra long scarf in a contrasting color that you can toss over both shoulders in a mock train style.
