A*Men Pure Malt is the most recent interpretation of Thierry Mugler’s A*Men. Pure Malt was inspired by the Scottish peaty whisky which is redolent of sensual woody accents thus creating an exciting malt experience, gourmand style. Aged in oak barrel, this limited edition variant of A*Men is a cocktail of luxury spirits with a distinct boozy note that balances the food-y notes of the fragrance.
Pure Malt smells a lot like A*Men Pure Coffee (2008) sans the coffee, of course. It is rather a paled version of A*Men but the gourmand character is still noticeably pronounced. The top notes are suggestive of booze then transitions into toffee-malt sweetness. The dry down evokes warmth with just a slight dose of patchouli and bits of vanilla musk. Pure Malt is less intense in terms of potency. The creaminess brought forth by the woodsy and malt whisky undertone is pleasant without being too cloyingly sweet. The sillage is quite average as compared with the earlier flankers. Since Pure Malt is a tamed version of A*Men, longevity is not at par with the original. The boozy-caramel aroma cascades nicely in the beginning then gradually peters out in the dry down. The toasty gourmand accords hold longer in the dry down making the fragrance just as refined and elegant the first time you smell it.
Some perfume pundits have this notion that flankers are nothing but a ho-hum iteration of the parent- they simply lack creativity. Fragrance houses try to more creative with the notes to either strengthen the formulation or tone it down a bit to make it more softer. Pure Malt is a well-executed fragrance and that is what makes it different from other flankers. Fragrance aged in oak barrel? That’s how creative Thierry Mugler is and that is just his fragrance portfolio. His cosmic haute couture is another story.
On the whole, the boozy notes in A*Men Pure Malt make it very manly. Would Thierry Mugler venture in incorporating booze accords in the women’s fragrances like Angel? That will be an interesting olfactive-experience to look forward to.
A*Men Pure Malt is available in 100ml eau de toilette. More Thierry Mugler perfumes and colognes at discount perfume retailer, scentiments.com.

Versace’s new fragrance Versense is inspired by nature’s elements, promising balance of the senses and revitalization of energy. Dubbed as “a promise for the senses”, this fragrance for women marries the freshness of Mediterranean notes and contemporary bouquet to bring out the fusion of sensuality and glamour that marks the Versace woman of today.
Fresh yet intoxicating, Versense opens up with fresh notes of bergamot and mandarin orange then develops into a stunning balance of floral notes featuring jasmine, sea daffodil and cardamom. The dry down combines the warmth emanated by cedar wood, sandal wood, olive tree and musk. The juice is housed in a transparent bottle embossed with Versace’s signature insignia and the juice comes in a luminous color of light green.
At first sniff, Versense is redolent of green floral notes. Light and airy notes arising from bergamot and orange notes decorate the top. The floral notes in the middle are somewhat neutered and barely there. The musk notes counter the green-ness of the fragrance and the dry down evokes a feeling of sophistication and quiet elegance that perfectly fits the days of summer.
The sheer character of Versense is similar to that of Versace’s Bright Crystal. Although these two are not in any way similar in olfactive experience – Bright Crystal is in the sweet-soft-floral category whereas Versense permeates more of the green accords and the floral notes are hushed. Both fragrances are considered light and the sillage is very feminine. It is long lasting despite being in the EDT formulation.
Versense is available in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml EDT and the collection also includes a full line of body products such as body lotion (for layering) and shower gel.

Light Blue Perfume for Women by Dolce & Gabbana is a colorful floral-fruity scent that captures the sun-kissed summer days and the glittering nights of the Italian coast. The parade of citrus fruits meshes with sensual musky undertones bringing out a vibrant and sparkling summer breeze ambiance. This most desired perfume is oozing with zest. The crisp apples, the bluebells, the Sicilian citron and dewy rose petals and lovely jasmine creates a certain subtle sweetness and once it hugs your skin, it develops into something stunning. And truly, it tickles the scent palates.
Light Blue is a playful mix of feminine scent and urban lifestyle. It’s deep and aesthetically pleasing. It doesn’t overwhelm and is not a nausea-inducing scent. It’s more of an intimate fragrance. You need to get close to appreciate the scent.
Characterized by a blend so light, it’s perfect for spring and summer.Sillage is quietly sweet. As for longevity, your skin chemistry determines how long it stays on you. It holds longer on some yet evaporates so quickly on others. Light Blue could pass as a shared fragrance especially to those who prefer scents that are borderline feminine and masculine.
According to one perfume connoisseur from Basenotes.com, “The Granny Smith apple note in the opening gives enough contrast with the cedar and bluebells to create a bit of olfactory surprise. The whole floral fruity top level is smooth and refreshing and very nice if not extremely sophisticated. It’s a feel good fragrance — vibrant and warm. The florals and bamboo of the middle continue with a smooth floral / green dominated by a simple jasmine: the simplicity of the accord is captivating and is completely in tune with the vibes of the opening. The base is more cedar and musk—quite recessive to my nose, but I think its scarcity is fully in tune with the theme of Light Blue. It is invigorating; it is the springtime and mountain lakes filled with butterflies frolicking in the meadows.”
The first Dolce & Gabbana fragrance was introduced in 1992. It was a men’s fragrance called, Dolce & Gabbana Cologne for Men. Light Blue was launched in 2001 to target young women in the 25-40 age groups. Like its highly successful fashion designs, the Dolce & Gabbana fragrance collection continues to flourish and create vivacious and impressive scents.

Created with a rich base of amber, Prada Amber Pour Homme is a sensual, masculine scent that draws a playful contrast with four basic accords: amber, fougere, cologne and leather. The top notes of mandarin, cardamom and bergamot conveys a classic ambiance while the oriental elements radiate comforting warmth that calms. The base culminates with a sleek finish of leathery notes of vetiver, neroli saffron and suede. Notice the fleeting fruity opening followed by a sweet Tonka-vanilla heart with hints of light patchouli. The light powdery touches of base notes infuse a mild sweet-like scent, not too sweet because every note is well restrained. This fragrance is elegant and masculine in a very gentle kind of way.
Prada Amber is not the type of pour homme fragrance that overwhelms. It is not heavy on the sillage and certainly, does not announce itself in the crowd. It is meant for intimacy and closeness. There is a distinct soapiness but the kind of luxurious soap imaginable like those sold in high-end shops in Italy. One loyal Prada Amber gushed, “This scent is a tease. It doesn’t command attention. It’s too subtle to do that. Instead it begs for attention. It captivates your interest with it’s promising notes, drawing you in closer to get better acquainted, but never giving up all it’s secrets completely all at once. Addictive. It has an alluring sexiness to it.”
And yet another user who can’t get enough of Prada Amber, “It’s very hard to identify the individual notes in this fragrance, and yes it does have a synthetic feel if over-applied. And yes it definitely smells like soap, but the kind of soap you would find in hotel rooms costing more than $1000 a night… this has been one of my mainstays for quite awhile… the sillage is amazing, the opening to dry down is tightly knit, and you never get the feeling that you smell like the other three guys in the elevator… this is a tremendously light and powdery fragrance, so if you are a lover of woods or deeper scents you will hate this… all in all a special Prada fragrance to go with my great Prada shoes.”
Prada Amber Pour Homme is one of the most intriguing fragrances from the Italian perfumery house. The ingredients are masterfully balanced and harmonized resulting to a unique fragrance like no other — notably soapy, fragrant and long-lasting. The scent drifts throughout the day leaving you with clean waves of luxurious fragrance.

D&G Feminine is a clean, crisp and fruity floral scent with a musky dry down. Introduced in 1999, this modern scent is geared towards the young market. Straightforward and uncomplicated, this fragrance is sprinkled with intricate florals and hints of musky woods. It features tangerine, green pear, water lily, mimosa, wisteria, musk, vanilla bean and sandalwood.
Living up to its namesake, D&G Feminine is indeed very feminine. The soft florals combined with the slight powdery accent makes it very delicate but not cloyingly sweet and offensive in any way. Some perfume aficionados consider the scent a bit old-fashioned. According to one perfume review from Fragrantica, “D&G Feminine is very sensual, unique and very romantic. I like the sensual powdery dry down. It fills me up with harmony. The smell of flowers is so real I feel like I am in a flower garden!Excellent lasting power! P.S. For me personally is for spring/summer time.” And another thumbs up for its stunning scent, “I really love this fragrance, clean, fresh, soft, powdery… for me it's amazing. The dry down is beautiful and definitely feminine without being too girly like or sweet. Good staying power. Great for every season. Dolce and Gabbana Feminine is classy and beautiful. For me is the best Dolce&Gabbana scent and it’s quite underrated.”
D&G Masculine is a woody-aromatic fragrance bursting with a classic lemony citrus scent. This refreshingly simple perfume features stong lemon notes and dries down with a woody-spice base. The contemporary freshness boast a well-blended depth, it’s a bit sweet, more like lemon candy-like. On the sillage department, D&G Masculine keeps the scent close to the skin. It is long lasting and kudos to the lemon notes, the scent permeates an uplifting ambiance.
D&G Feminine and D&G Masculine comes in a very handy and sleek transparent bottle and is available in eau de toilette form. Italian fashion house Dolce&Gabbana continues to create timeless long-term trends and like their clothing line, their fragrances evoke a distinct luxe style of modern loving.
